Mazda MX-30 EV - Welcome To Different
Mazda’s first ever Electric Vehicle, the MX-30 is generating strong interest among New Zealand motorists.
Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge said pre-launch enquires and registrations of interest from people wanting to book a test drive or further information was significantly higher than expected.
“The recent Government announcement regarding subsidies for electric vehicle buyers, which the MX-30 qualifies for, along with people in urban areas looking for a vehicle that suits their lifestyle and core values, are key reasons for the strong interest.
The MX-30 has been designed by Mazda not just for the environment, but for the driver too. Its where contemporary design meets effortless style, with freestyle doors and a spacious, premium interior.
Mazda’s first electric powertrain is an important step in our multi-solution approach to a more sustainable, cleaner future.
Minimising weight and Engaging Driving Dynamics are a hallmark trait in Mazda vehicle development – where “weight is viewed as the enemy of performance”. So, it is no surprise that Mazda’s EV has a lightweight 35.5 kWh battery which provides better handling performance and has less impact on the environment over the life of the vehicle. Paired with the new electric drive technology: e-Skyactiv it has a maximum system power of 107kW and a maximum torque output of 271 Nm.
Furthering Mazda’s human centric engineering philosophy, it has spawned new technologies such as Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture, adapting the multi-direction ring structures of the bodyshell and electric G-Vectoring Control Plus (e-GVC Plus) to fully exploit the unique characteristics and qualities of an electric vehicle to enhance the driving experience.
Mazda has also developed its own bespoke Motor Pedal concept for the MX-30 – a development of the traditional accelerator pedal which reduces vehicle response time to pedal inputs. Additionally, aural feedback related to the torque status of the power unit is provided via the audio system, helping the driver to subconsciously control vehicle speed with greater precision. The MX-30 is also equipped with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters to further enhance the enjoyment of EV driving and for the driver to control the amount of regenerative braking energy recuperation.
Driver and passenger safety has always been at the forefront of all Mazda built vehicles and the MX-30 is the latest model in Mazda’s range to be awarded the maximum 5-Star Safety Rating (2020 Tested) by the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) in its combined safety performance evaluation.
The MX-30 Takami EV is available from selected Mazda dealerships nationwide. With a RRP of $74,990 it qualifies for the full $8,625 clean car rebate. And for a limited time includes a fast charge AC Wallbox Pulsar Plus charger (valued at $2,000) for early adopters.
The Mazdacare programme further enhances the ownership experience by providing a 5-year warranty and 5-year Mazda On Call Roadside Assistance. Separately, the battery comes with an 8 year/160,000km warranty (whichever comes first at 70% of original battery capacity). While the 5 year/100,000km Genuine Mazda Scheduled Servicing at no extra cost provides further peace of mind.
Furthermore, Mazda will also fund five native NZ trees for every MX-30 sold in conjunction with Trees That Count. Native trees not only sequester CO2 from the atmosphere, but they also provide thriving habitats for native birds, improve water quality in water ways, and provide beautiful places for future generations to explore. Every native tree planted in NZ helps to restore and enhance our environment, for biodiversity, for climate change.
