Luxury Without Compromise Is The First Ever Mazda CX-90

Leading the charge as the pinnacle of Mazda’s most luxurious model ever made, the First-Ever Mazda CX-90 also earns its stripes as an efficiency champion in the large SUV segment.

The CX-90 is one of two new models from the company’s new Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture platform that is being introduced to the New Zealand market. It is being jointly launched with the CX-60 front-engine, rear-wheel-drive medium SUV.

The First-Ever Mazda CX-90 follows Mazda’s rightsizing approach and commitment to a multi-solution approach to sustainable mobility.  The high output petrol powerplant employs a newly developed e-Skyactiv G 3.3 Hybrid featuring 48V mild-hybrid technology. The force-fed inline six-cylinder turbocharged 3.3 litre engine delivers effortless performance, impressive power and torque as well as exceptional balance and smoothness. The charismatic driving dynamics afforded by the additional cylinders and larger displacement also allow for a myriad of other benefits, including better real-world fuel economy and clean exhaust emissions.

Producing an impressive 254kW and an exceptional 500Nm of available torque, the First-Ever CX-90 is Mazda’s most powerful production powerplant ever.  This engine is also equipped with M-Hybrid (a mild hybrid system) to provide efficiency without compromising on its remarkable performance. The electric motor is placed between the engine and transmission and works seamlessly together with the petrol engine to achieve exceptional efficiency without sacrificing driving enjoyment. This engaging powertrain provides the CX-90 with an upscale feeling, a smooth-driving experience, engaging sound, and efficiency.

Despite the extra pulling power on offer and a (braked) tow rating of 2,500kg, the First-Ever Mazda CX-90 returns 9.1 l/100km (WLTP) fuel economy and 210 CO2 g/km (WLTP).

The 48V M Hybrid system ensures that during inefficient low load situations (e.g. during idling and in low speed ranges) the engine is supplemented by the electric motor, improving overall emissions and taking advantage of a higher compression ratio for better fuel efficiency.

The CX-90 features thoughtful proportions that perfectly blend its high-performance appearance with world-class refinement, while providing a well-crafted interior with increased cabin space and three row seating for 7 as well as ample cargo space to accommodate needs for any lifestyle.

Featuring a front-engine, rear-wheel-bias longitudinal layout to elevate Mazda's signature driving performance. CX-90 is equipped with Kinematic Posture Control, which first debuted on the MX-5, a software feature that suppresses body lift on tight corners to enhance the grip and allows all occupants to maintain a natural posture. Focus was put toward optimizing rigidity across the entire vehicle body, while meticulously designing the seats and suspension to provide better balance, control, and confidence in a range of driving situations. With these thoughtful developments, along with standard i-Activ all-wheel drive, drivers can enjoy the full potential of the available high-output powertrain.

The CX-90 is also equipped with the all-new eight-speed automatic transmission, specifically designed for the electrified longitudinal powertrains and large platform vehicles. The multi-speed automatic gearbox, without a torque converter, achieves smooth and direct acceleration while improving drivetrain efficiency.

Also being introduced with CX-90 is Mazda's latest Takuminuri color, Artisan Red. This available paint option has been developed specifically to suit the CX-90 and provides a sophisticated, yet deeply saturated color to the vehicle's blend of performance and refinement.

CX-90's dignified design continues into the cabin with an interior that gives an expansive impression from the dashboard through the positioning of the vents and chrome trim extending to the doors for a modern, linear appearance. Inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, a luxurious and comfortable feel is experienced in all three rows and all come together harmoniously.

As with all Mazda vehicles, CX-90 seeks to maintain the same top safety recognition as Mazda's other products with many standard i-Activsense safety features, such as Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, and other new features that will help enhance the confident experience for all occupants.

CX-90 also features larger displays, accompanied by physical buttons that complement the interior styling. New Mazda technologies, such as Driver Personalisation System which includes facial recognition technology and ideal driving position recommendations and 360^o See-Through View monitor, further enhance the driving experience, provide the driver a seamless experience with the technology and comfort CX-90 offers, while helping the driver feel in control of the vehicle.  Thoughtful conveniences such as handsfree power tailgate, three-zone climate control air conditioning, and ventilated front seats, heated front and 2^nd row (outer) seats, USB-C ports front and rear rows all add to the enjoyment for all occupants.

Mazdacare includes a five-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, five-year scheduled servicing (up to 100,000km) and five-years of roadside assist coverage at no extra cost.

Recommended retail pricing for the First-Ever Mazda CX-90 Takami, is $92,990 (including GST, excluding On-Road Costs) and available from Mazda dealers across New Zealand from September 2023.
