First-ever Mazda CX-3 sprints beautifully towards a new era - Get ready to be moved like never before…

9 April 2015

The first-ever Mazda CX-3 is the result of a pursuit of beauty and radical design. This latest iteration of KODO design is bold and stylish and sure to capture the hearts of many New Zealanders when it launches this month.

Highly anticipated and distinctively Mazda, the first-ever CX-3 was born by further refining and evolving the image of vitality that constitutes the KODO design DNA, and by creating a sharper form with a heightened sense of speed.

Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director of Mazda New Zealand describes the design of the first ever CX-3 as stunning and full of expression and expects that it will captivate people.

“The first-ever CX-3 expresses Mazda’s design language in the most stylish fashion as it takes on the challenge of not being dictated to by preconceived notions and leaping far ahead of anything else in this class,” says Clearwater.

“The design team was uncompromising when it came to the CX-3, refining the proportions that form the foundation of its beauty, painstaking efforts to eliminate every unnecessary element, and a refusal to be bound by styling notions. We are very excited to be able to offer it to New Zealanders.”

Completing the line-up of new generation KODO models, the first-ever CX-3 features a sharper form with a heightened sense of speed and expression of motion resulting in a true sense of purpose.

The front half of the body features one solid mass with a flowing shape, the cabin section presents a sleek look achieved by moving the A-pillars rearward and blacking out the D-pillars, and the solid mass at the rear of the body conveys a look of strength and power.

The front grille creates an expression of concentrated energy that flows laterally out from the symbol in the center to surround the vehicle. The headlamp layout positions the turn signals outside the main headlamp unit to create a narrow, sharp design that is suggestive of an untamed animal’s eyes.

Pushing the peak of the front fenders rearward so they lay beneath the base of the A-pillars created a flowing hood profile, the A-pillars are slim at the base and grow increasingly thicker as they proceed upward.  The black-coloured D-pillars create a look of unity with the windows, intensifying the sense of motion along the roof sides and enable the lines to flow off the rear without interruption.

Inside the cabin of the first-ever CX-3 finely crafted interior details lend a gentle touch to soft materials, a sharp look to the edges of metallic-finish parts and a distinctive air to hard objects embedded in soft material. The aim was to create a radical yet high-quality design coordinated with the innovative exterior.

Theergonomically centre-focused driver’s space is designed to enable effortless focus on the road with all key driving-related controls positioned to allow relaxed operation.  The Active Driving Display on the GSX and Limited models shows the most important real-time driving data directly in the driver’s forward field of view.

The state of the art Human Machine Interface (HMI) houses the MZD Connect system, a 7-inch touchscreen and rotary commander control everything from navigation and communication to social media (via your smartphone’s data).

The interior combines black as a base colour with one of four coordinated patterns: pure white or black leather and off-black Lux Suede, black leatherette and dark gray fabric, or black and dark gray fabric*.

While outside the color palette features eight body colors that highlights the stylish exterior including the newly developed Ceramic Metallic body color - a finely honed metallic surface and strong sense of hardness that changes in appearance depending on how the light hits it.

Challenging everything in its class on all accounts, Mazda has equipped the first-ever CX-3 with an array of cutting-edge active safety technology as-well-as comprehensive passive safety innovations.

Increasingly across the grades more of Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE Safety Technologies are present with Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert in the GSX through to the Limited which includes, High Beam Control and Smart City Brake Support – Forward, to name a few.
