Welcome to a more dynamic and environmentally conscious drive. Our Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) powertrain features both an electric motor and petrol engine, giving you all kinds of advantages. From electric only running, to exhilarating power, you can enjoy longer range, exceptional fuel efficiency and reduced emissions

Why choose a plug-in hybrid (PHEV)?

FUEL EFFICIENCY

Our plug-in hybrid cars use the electric motor more often than a standard hybrid, with the added benefit of up to 61 km of electric-only running. This means greater fuel efficiency and less money spent on petrol.

GREATER CONVENIENCE

By utilising the petrol engine when required, you’re not limited by your vehicle’s battery capacity. This means you can set off on longer drives without experiencing range anxiety.

LOWER CARBON EMISSIONS

In consuming less fuel, a plug-in hybrid car outputs less carbon emissions than a vehicle with a standard petrol engine. This makes for a more environmentally minded drive which is key to our mission for a more sustainable future.

UNCOMPROMISED PERFORMANCE

Being more environmentally focused doesn’t mean the plug-in hybrid vehicle is lacking in performance. At your command, you can experience the thrill of 241 kW and 500 Nm of torque powering you forward.

How does a plug-in hybrid work?

FEATURES OF PHEV

Our Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) offers the distinct advantages of using both an electric motor and a petrol engine as power sources. The plug-in hybrid car can run in pure EV mode for up to 63km thanks to its 17.8kWh battery pack. That’s more than enough for most average Kiwi daily commutes. You can also switch from EV mode to hybrid running based on your driving needs. With the electric motor and petrol engine working all at once, you can expect an exhilarating driving experience. Even if you can’t plug it in, you can complete your journey as long as you have petrol.

CHARGING YOUR PHEV

Mazda’s PHEV battery can be easily recharged by plugging into an external power supply such as a household socket, home AC wallbox charger, or a public charging station. Mazda CX-60 PHEV can achieve a full charge in 5 hours using a normal household 240V socket or 2.5 hours on an AC charger with a type 2 port. When your battery runs low, the hybrid mode is activated and charges the battery via the petrol engine, maintaining the charge level. And in the case of the First-Ever Mazda CX-60 PHEV, braking energy is also harvested and used for charging purposes, a concept known as regenerative braking.
