Beyond the drive

Mazda are offering customers a diverse choice of new vehicles through its innovative Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture providing both driving pleasure and the latest environmental performance to meet demands in the continuously growing global SUV segment.

Committed to having all new models fully or partially electrified by 2030. Every new model in the Mazda line-up will feature different kinds and degrees of electrification, with 75% of the cars sporting electrified ICEs and BEVs making up the other 25%.

At the same time, Mazda is pursuing the development of alternative fuels, such as e-fuels, since it is not the engine, but the fuel the engine burns that stores and releases carbon. This would allow for internal combustion engines to become completely carbon neutral.

Advancements to our Monotsukuri Innovation in production and continuous development of our Skyactiv technology also allow us to expand our SUV line-up efficiently.

Mazda’s Monotsukuri Innovation has put in place the infrastructure for parallel manufacturing systems, which allow production to swing between different lines as needed in order to meet customer and market demands – expanding our manufacturing flexibility even further.

A characteristic feature of Mazda’s Monotsukuri, is that R & D and Manufacturing teams work in unison to thoroughly discuss and harmonize the fixed and variable elements required for a product in the early stages of car manufacturing. This ensures that when producing different products in the same production facility, we can use common fixing points for vehicles and their parts to achieve versatility. Flexibility has been built into the vehicle structure right from the planning and design stages.

The Monotsukuri Innovation upgrades to our production facilities in Japan means that we can build models in different sizes, and different combinations of battery, motor, and engine, without making a large change to production lines. Flexibility, in which multiple production lines are treated as if they were part of a single plant, allows us to be adaptable across multiple lines – producing a wide range of body types and designs on the same line.

At the same time, the bar for production is set at the height of Takumi experts, that is, making items with the exact dimensions as if a craftsman had made it, despite being a mass-produced item.
