The benchmark for medium SUV’s in New Zealand was established by the first ever Mazda CX-5 launched in 2012 and that trend is set to continue with the arrival of the New Mazda CX-5.
Featuring increased levels of refinement across all aspects of the vehicle, the New Mazda CX-5 will find instant appeal with New Zealand motorists looking for class- leading design, comfort and performance.
For the New CX-5, the design team at Mazda has taken the KODO – Soul of Motion design language to another level, resulting in a more evolved styling expression. To achieve this, they excluded all non-essential design items to create a vehicle that highlights outstanding craftsmanship and beauty through simplicity.
Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge, says the skill and vision of the Mazda designers continues to amaze him.
“With the New CX-5 they have created a vehicle that redefines quality and elegance in the mid-size SUV market. It has matured into a stunning SUV that will be a winner with New Zealand motorists.
The New CX-5 has a lower centre of gravity, short overhangs and wider front and rear tracks and wheels that deliver a powerful looking stance and a sense of stability. The front face of the vehicle has a lower and wider grille and sleek LED headlamps are standard across the range.
On the road, this vehicle is a real head turner. This is the result of the designers minimising the character lines and accentuating the transition of body panels and surfaces, resulting in beautiful textures and reflections that create a sense of movement.
The slogan for development of the New CX-5 was “an SUV all customers will enjoy,” and Mazda aimed to add a new dimension by offering driving pleasure that everyone on board can enjoy — not just the driver. The interior certainly adheres to this slogan.
The cabin is free from clutter and noise and the cockpit fits snugly around the driver with all controls easily at hand. The cabin reflects the exterior’s expert craftsmanship with the attention to detail and use of quality materials providing a comfortable and elegant space for passengers.
The driver centric cockpit provides the ideal driving position and visibility has been improved by positioning the slimmer A-pillars 35mm rearward.
The quintessential kiwi road trip or Monday to Friday daily grind can result in clutter and accumulation. The New CX-5 deals with this through the well thought out use of storage spaces and improved cargo volume (+52L VDA) and design. The Limited grade models feature a power tailgate.
The New CX-5 GSX and Limited models are equipped with Active Driving Display that projects important information in the driver’s line of sight. Meters have been upgraded on all models and the New CX-5 is the first Mazda vehicle with enhanced MZD Connect centre display which supresses reflection and improves clarity.
It is available in eight exterior colours including Mazda’s new premium colour, Soul Red Crystal Metallic and four trim options are available. GLX models feature black cloth, GSX models adopt a black deluxe leatherette and suede combination, while the Limited models offer the choice of black or pure white leather.
All vehicles are equipped with SKYACTIV-Drive six-speed automatic transmission. GSX and Limited models have the choice of SKYACTIV diesel or petrol engines as well as i-ACTIV All-Wheel-Drive.
