Mazda3 New Zealand Car Of The Year

5 December 2014

The class leading Mazda3 was named the 2014 New Zealand Car of the Year by the AA and NZ Motoring Writers Guild at an event in Auckland last night.

The win means Mazda becomes the first car company in New Zealand to win the prestigious New Zealand Car of the Year for a record fifth time.

Andrew Clearwater, Managing Director Mazda New Zealand said they were absolutely thrilled with the win.

“This Award is a credit to the Mazda team in Japan who have created a vehicle that ticks all the boxes, from design and safety through to performance and technology.

It is our top selling model in New Zealand because it has the features and comfort that you would normally expect to find in more expensive vehicles.”

“Feedback from our dealers and owners of the new Mazda3 has been extremely positive and we believe this vehicle has really raised the bar in the compact car segment.”

The judges noted that with its styling, fuel economy and numerous safety features the Mazda3 has become a firm Kiwi favourite with models to suit a broad range of motorists.

The Mazda3 was not the only Mazda winner on the night.  For a third year in a row the top selling Mazda CX-5 won Best in Class in the small/medium SUV segment.

Clearwater says, “We were a pleasantly surprised to win this again but it just highlighted what a fantastic vehicle the CX-5 is and how it continues to stay ahead of the competition.”

Previous Mazda winners of the NZ Car of the Year Award are:

2007 – Mazda2

2005 – Mazda MX-5

2002 – Mazda6

1990 – Mazda MX-5

The win for the Mazda3 comes one week after it was named NBR Supreme Car of the Year.
