First Ever Mazda CX-8 a Smooth Operator

Looking amazing is one thing but a vehicle also needs to perform. The First Ever Mazda CX-8 ticks both boxes.

Featuring the latest version of Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D 2.2L diesel, the First Ever Mazda CX-8 provides the level of performance New Zealand motorists require to handle the wide variety of driving conditions found in New Zealand.

The ability of the Mazda team in Japan to develop and enhance the technology of Mazda vehicles continues to impress says Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge.

“The car industry is under pressure to lower emissions and reduce fuel consumption. Through the addition of a new combustion process called Rapid Multi-Stage combustion, the Mazda engineers have increased peak torque by +30Nm and peak power by +11kW while at the same time reducing fuel consumption and emissions. It’s a win-win for New Zealand motorists.”

To deliver the driving experience expected from Mazda vehicles, High-Precision DE Boost Controls improves acceleration response while the Natural Sound Smoother and Natural Sound frequency technologies suppress engine knocking noise, for a quieter, more refined experience.

Having seven people in a SUV, spread across three rows, could have been a recipe for a conversation disaster. However, Mazda has created a quiet cabin environment through improving Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH) performance.

This was achieved by adding dampers to the front struts and vibration dampening materials to the rear fender panels. Wind noise has been reduced by minimising the gaps of both exterior and interior panels and putting a partial seal around the rear tailgate and designing aerodynamic roof rails. Enhanced noise insulation with sound-absorbing materials have been put into the headliner, floor and base of the D-pillar.

Driver and passenger safety is at the forefront of all Mazda designed vehicles and this continues with the First Ever Mazda CX-8 adopting a range of i-ACTIVSENSE safety features.

David Hodge says one of the biggest changes he has noticed in recent years is the level of sophisticated safety technologies available in Mazda vehicles.

“Mazda ensures the driver of the CX-8 can safely and confidently operate the vehicle in a range of conditions while the passengers can relax and enjoy the drive. To achieve this the first ever CX-8 has a comprehensive package of the latest passive and active technologies that continues to be enhanced and added to. This gives people, especially those with children, the confidence the CX-8 is providing class leading safety for their loved ones.”

Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) is included for the first time in a Mazda and is standard across all CX-8 models. Linked to the Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC), and using the navigation system and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), ISA provides additional speed limiting warnings.

The SKYACTIV-BODY in the CX-8 has a multi-path structure to disperse crash energy away from the passengers. All five rear seating positions include top-tether child-seat restraint anchor points while two ISOFIZ anchor points are equipped to the outer two seats in the second row.

Those with an active lifestyle will appreciate the latest version of Mazda’s 140kW with 450Nm SKYACTIV-D 2.2L engine and the 2,000kg (braked) towing capacity of the First Ever Mazda CX-8.

Pricing for the First Ever Mazda CX-8 range from $53,495 for the GSX (2WD) model to $62,495 for the Limited (AWD) model and is available from your nearest Mazda Dealer.
