New Zealand motorists who experience the outstanding quality and finish of the All-New Mazda3, the first of the 7th generation Mazda vehicles, will put it at the top of their consideration list ahead of established European brands.
Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge, says he was stunned by the look and feel of both the All-New Mazda3 Hatch and Sedan when he first saw the vehicles and expects a similar reaction from the New Zealand motoring public.
“There has been a move towards SUVs due to rational factors such as cargo capacity and higher ride points, but the Mazda design team deliberately steered away from trying to appeal to those who have adopted SUVs.
“Instead, they stayed true to the factors such as design and driving dynamics that have made the Mazda3 such a popular vehicle in New Zealand and delivered them in a way never seen before in this segment of the market.”
Based on a less-is-more design philosophy, the All-New Mazda 3 Hatch and Sedan offer two very distinct personalities that takes Mazda’s Kodo design philosophy to the next level.
The Hatch’s sporty, cutting-edge design conveys a sense of anticipation and energy. This has been achieved by doing away with character lines on the aggressive looking body panels and powerful C-Pillars to create a unique rear design where the cabin and body appear to form a single solid mass.
The Sedan is larger and lower in height. The front and rear of the vehicle adopt a horizontal layout that accentuates the look of a wide and low stance, with the body flowing from front to rear in a single motion. The chrome plated signature wing conveys Mazda3’s quality. It is a true sedan that is sleek and elegant with a sense of maturity, sophistication and refinement.
The All-New Mazda3’s dynamic new lamp designs see all unnecessary elements shaved away to leave only an essence of a light fixture. The headlamps adopt a simple ring shape pattern in the centre while the rear combination lamps feature four round lights with graduations in their illuminations that create an appearance of being directed towards the front.
For David Hodge the ultimate ‘WOW’ moment came when he opened the door of the All New Mazda3.
“I knew the Mazda designers were working on something special and the interior cabin they have created for the All-New Mazda3 far exceeded my expectations. The “Beauty through Subtraction” principle that was applied to the exterior flows through to the interior cabin.
“It is an elegant space free of clutter and all elements are kept as simple as possible and when you are in the driver’s seat you really do feel you are sitting in something very special.”
The designers have laid out the cockpit in perfect horizontal symmetry putting the driver at the heart of the car. All the cockpit elements are driver facing providing a wrap-around effect. The design helps the driver focus on driving while the passengers enjoy a relaxing and comfortable environment.
To enhance the premium look and feel of the cabin, higher-grade materials that offer better tactile and visual qualities have been used.
The Mazda designers have changed elements of the cabin to ensure a relaxed and comfortable driving position. To ensure a driving position to suit a range of different sizes the steering wheel’s telescopic adjustment has been increased to 70mm. The thickness and shape of the A-pillar has been redesigned to provide a natural field of view and significantly reduce blind spots.
Mazda’s Jinba Ittai philosophy of providing an intuitive and natural connection between the car and driver has been taken to another level in the All-New Mazda3. The 7-inch multi-information display in front of the driver shows critical safety-related information in the top section of the display.
The 8.8-inch wide centre display is operated exclusively via an intuitive commander dial. An improved voice recognition system has been created that allows the user to interrupt voice guidance and skip individual steps respectively. Apple Car Play™ and Android Auto Connectivity ™ is also standard on all models.
To ensure Kiwi motorists can enjoy their favourite songs during road trips in the All-New Mazda3, Mazda has developed its best-ever audio system featuring a premium Bose® amplifier and 12-speakers in the Limited model. Bass speakers (woofers) are located in the front corners to reduce distortion and eliminate reflected sounds across other parts of the cabin.
The All-New Mazda3 model line-up has changed to reflect the high level of craftmanship, refinement and specifications. As a result, the range starts with a GSX model priced at $36,595 and two grades: GTX and Takami have also been added to compliment the model line-up.
The Mazdacare program has been significantly enriched with the launch of the All-New Mazda3. Every All-New Mazda3 will include a 5-year unlimited kilometre Factory Warranty, 5-years of Mazda On Call Roadside Assistance and Genuine Scheduled Servicing for 5 years or 100,000 kilometres (whichever occurs first) at no extra cost.
