The Mazda 626 was based on the Japanese Capella. The 626 replaced the 616/618 and RX-2 in 1979 and was replaced in 2002 by the new Mazda6 as Mazda's large family car. The 626 was also sold as the Ford Telstar in Asia, Australasia and Southern Africa, before being replaced by the Ford Mondeo.
The closest comparison today is the Mazda6. With its dynamic handling and performance, refined craftsmanship and stylish interior, it's easy to see why the Mazda6 is New Zealand's favourite mid-sized car.
