Redeveloped from the ground up as an entirely new type of pick-up, the BT-50 is a powerful Active Lifestyle Vehicle that drives - and looks - like a passenger car, yet still satisfies the practical application demanded of utility vehicles. Taller, wider and longer than ever before, the extra space created by a class-leading wheelbase of 3,220mm offers unparalleled levels of both comfort and load capacity. We've also upped the wheel size across all models to complement the larger body shell and maintain optimum balance for both on and off-road driving.

Even mazda commericalcare, the comprehensive service package included with every new Mazda BT-50, has changed. A new option; Fixed Price Servicing, has been added to the mix where every scheduled service completed by Mazda specialist technicians will cost no more than $200 (incl. GST) per service. This is in addition to the 3 years /150,000km (whichever occurs first) of Genuine Mazda Factory Warranty and 3 years unlimited kilometres Mazda On Call Roadside Assistance 24hrs, 365 days included at no extra cost.

A new Powertrain

There have been changes to the BT-50’s powertrain too where a brand new 5-cylinder 3.2L diesel engine now delivers a massive boost to both power and torque. Meanwhile a lighter and more compact engine design combines with a super efficient 6-speed manual or automatic transmission to bring double digit fuel savings as well as a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

Plus, in order to make the new BT-50 drive like an SUV rather than a truck, we've rebuilt the suspension, steering and frame so as to deliver a smooth linear feel. This has been achieved via a newly developed double wishbone suspension formation at the front, enhanced mounting and rigidity in the leaf-springs and through a new rack-and-pinion steering system. These elements are all similar to what we use in our passenger vehicles in order to give a better road feel for the driver.

On the inside, the BT-50 offers levels of interior refinement and comfort never before seen on a utility. Smooth flowing lines connect the central portion of the instrument panel with the floor panel creating a wraparound cockpit for the driver and passenger more reminiscent of a passenger vehicle than a truck cabin. Safety

The all-new Mazda BT-50 raises the bar on safety performance with an unprecedented range of active and passive technologies. It all starts with the sturdy body and frame construction incorporating localised reinforcements to accommodate impact paths and protect the integrity of the passenger safety cell. Add to this Front, Side and Curtain SRS airbags, universal 3-point seat belts plus Bluetooth® hands-free connectivity as standard and the all-new BT-50 goes to the head of the class in passive safety performance.

Active prevention better than cure

While it’s reassuring to know you’re protected in the event of an accident, it’s always better to avoid trouble in the first place. To achieve this, the BT-50 features an Electronic Stability Program that encompasses a myriad of advanced active safety technologies like; Emergency Brake Assist, Load Adaptive Control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Trailer Sway Assist, Traction Control and Roll Over Mitigation. These features adjust engine torque and braking to individual wheels to help avoid steering problems as well as track the vehicle’s movements and correct any issues with an inconsistent driving line.

This increased excellence in both passive and active safety technologies has been reflected by the new Mazda BT-50 receiving a maximum 5 star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) in 2011.
